For Phil's birthday this year, I got him tickets to see the Vikings play the Redskins at FedEx Field. I gave him the tickets in September before the season had begun - so it seemed like a PHENOMENAL gift at the time. Then the season began...and the Vikings tanked it big time in pretty much every area. We began to look forward to the game with half-hearted enthusiasm and a fair amount of dread.
We actually thought about selling the tickets and going to get massages or something instead, but in the end decided to go. After all, we love our Vikings and Childress had just been fired - so at least we had that going for us. We were also into seeing a game outdoors, and our expectations were so low we figured we couldn't be in for too big of a heartbreak. As we were leaving the house, my parents (who were watching Adam for us) wished us luck instead of telling us to have a good time.
Once we got there, though, things began to improve. It was a beautiful day to be outside, and the atmosphere of the outdoor stadium was totally different than in the Metrodome. We had to climb a GIANT ramp to get to our seats - and I was pretty proud of myself, at 28 weeks pregnant, for making it to the top. As we were standing at the railing waiting for a Vikings fan to come by and take our picture, a Redskins fan says to us, "Don't jump yet, guys!" It was pretty funny. Here we are at the top. Don't worry - we didn't jump.

Here is the view from our seats. Even though they were in the upper deck, they were great seats. We could see everything, no matter what the field position (and we were right by the bathrooms!).
Ok, so we witnessed a miracle, and the Vikes had their best game of the season! We cautiously cheered during the first half, not wanting to get too excited. I was nervous at half time, because I actually felt my hopes rising - a very dangerous move when you're a Vikings fan.
Here is Favre taking a knee to win the game 17-13.
There weren't any Vikings fans sitting close enough to us, so we opted for a selfy after the game. It was a great day of togetherness and re-celebrating Phil's birthday, and we were obviously thrilled by the outcome of the game. So - the tickets ended up being a great gift after all!
