Update

Last week, Adam's pediatrician found another hernia in addition to his umbilical hernia that we already knew about.  Umbilical hernias are pretty common, but his is exceptionally large.  So, today we had a surgical consult over at Children's, and Adam has to have surgery on February 2 to repair both hernias.  It's a routine and simple procedure with tiny incisions, but it's still really hard for Phil and me to think about our little baby having surgery already :(  We are glad the Dr. found it early so there will be no complications.  Please keep him in your prayers!

"Don't worry, guys, I'll be ok!"

Two Months!

Adam is 2 months old!!!  I can't believe how fast it's gone.  Lots to share with you...

This is the latest trick that Phil is trying to teach him.  Adam grips Phil's fingers and sits up "by himself."
He's all smiles a lot of the time.
Getting so big!  On Thursday, January 22, he weighed 13 lbs. 12 oz.
Big Yawn!
 Some fun facts:
1.  His favorite music seems to be Michael Buble, but he likes anything upbeat.  He also likes Lorie Line on the piano.
2.  Still loves his bath and car rides.
3. He went to a card making party at Susie's house and had a blast flirting with all the ladies.
4. His hair is coming back in dark.  Phil and I thought he might be a blondie at first, since both of us were until we were about 5.  He's also starting to grow eyebrows...thank goodness!
5.  He likes being bounced on the exercise ball and he loves it when I turn on music and dance around in front of his swing.  (Don't you all wish you could see that!)
6. He's still having quite a bit of tummy trouble, but we are hoping it will slowly improve.
7. He's wearing a lot of 6 month clothes now...so big!
8. For some reason, he gets really happy when you put him on his changing table.
9. He "talks" to the toys on his playmat and gets very excited even though they don't talk back.
10. His eyes seem to be turning brown, but they still have a bit of dark blue around the edge.  They will probably end up somewhere between Phil's green and my brown.

Air Force Museum

Monday, January 19, was not only MLK day, but it was a big day for Phil and Adam.  We took him to the Air Force Museum for the first time!

Adam was not as impressed as Phil had hoped he'd be...
He happens to be sleeping in front of my favorite part of the museum.  This is the plane that carried the Atomic Bomb at the end of WWII.
Hopefully he'll be more excited about going as he gets older...for Phil's sake!

New Susie Photos - Adam at 7 Weeks

Susie and Andy gave us a tremendous gift on Saturday - four hours to ourselves!  Phil and I had a great and relaxing lunch together while we knew Adam was safe and sound with the Sincocks.  We feel so blessed to have friends who care for us so.

While Adam was there, of course Susie couldn't resist exercising her photographer's magic.  Some more beautiful photos from Susie!

What happens when Daddy goes to Babies R Us

Phil and Adam had a little car ride adventure to Babies R Us yesterday to take advantage of a great deal on diapers.  Now I used to think that only mommies were suckered into buying silly little outfits and other random impulse buys for their babies, but apparently I was wrong.  Phil returned with his objectives: diapers and wipes.....and this t-shirt.

It has a rocket on the front, but the back is the best part...
Blast Off!
Daddy's little rocket man.
Phil was totally pumped about his great find.

Fun Times...

Hello everyone!  It has been an exciting few weeks for us as Adam continues to grow and change.  We've had some hard times, as his tummy has been bothering him quite a bit making it hard for him to sleep and enjoy the day as much as he could.  It seems to be improving, though, slowly but surely.  We would appreciate your prayers in this area.  On a humorous note, doesn't it just figure that my child's biggest problem in life would be his gas?  All the Vanden Booms out there should be laughing right now :)

We do have many fun times, though, when his tummy calms down.  Here are Mama and Adam reading his dinosaur books.  He likes it when I run his hand over the textured parts.

Playtime with Mama vs. Playtime with Daddy

One may be slightly safer than the other...

Some Smiles :)

Adam has started smiling a lot.  He smiles at Phil and me and also a lot when he is on his playmat.  These photos are a little blury, since they're from Phil's phone, but I wanted to share.

One Month

Adam turned one month old while we were in MN on December 26.  Here are a few shots of the birthday boy...

You can see he is much more alert than he was in his one week shot (click here to compare), and the outfit he was wearing in that picture no longer fits him.  He is starting to smile and is getting stronger.  He often uses his legs to try and turn himself to reach a hanging toy.  He grabbed a book I was reading to him last night, but it might have been by accident.

It's great how awesome we are

The the theme this year at the Swenson Christmas was the 60s.  It was great fun, a few people were even in costume, and we played the newlywed game.  Actually, it was really the not-so-newlywed game, since some people (like my in-laws) have been married for forty years.
The point is that Phil and I cleaned house and won first prize!  I just wanted to share our awesomeness with you :)
Phil and me after our stunning victory.  (Adam offered minimal assistance.)

More fun in MN

Here are just a few more shots from our trip to MN...

Proud daddies Phil and Caleb with their sons.
Adam and Mama.
Aunt Grace and Adam.  Grace loves to hold him and sing to him-very sweet.
A close-up of Adam and Hunter.  You can see that Adam has started to actually smile at things.  He is smiling up at me in this shot!  It's amazing how happy that little smile makes me.
A close-up of Eleanor and Adam.

Meet and Greets in MN

We are back home in Ohio!  We had a wonderful visit to MN for Christmas.  It was great to spend time with our family and also introduce Adam to many relatives and friends.  I tried to take pictures with everyone he met, but many times I got caught up in excitement or just plain busyness and forgot.  Sorry to those who do not appear in the blog!  We are so thankful that Adam has so many people in his life that love him.

Our first visitors were Kitty and Eleanor.  Eleanor was born on October 8, 2008.  We are hoping these two will marry someday, but Adam rudely slept through their entire first date!
Adam met many aunts, uncles, and cousins during his trip.  I didn't get many pictures with them, though - None at the Swenson Christmas :(  This is my Aunt Beth and Cousin Shawna meeting Adam.
This is a special one.  This is my grandma meeting her first great-grandchild.  We felt so blessed that she was able to make the trip to be with us at Christmas.
Hunter, born October 4, finally got to meet his best friend, Adam!  Stacey and I are so excited for them to play together.
Here is Adam with his Aunt Grace.  Grace's face pretty much sums up her excitement about her nephew.
My friend Janice was home visiting from Georgia.  Janice and I have been friends since middle school, but haven't lived in the same state for a while.  Adam and I were so glad to see her.
My good friend from St. Olaf, Beth, stopped by the day before we left.  Beth co-hosted one of my showers, so I was glad she got to see the end result :)
Here is Uncle Matty with his nephew.  Adam also had a great time with his Uncle Matt Swenson and Aunt Tricia down in Albert Lea, but I never got any pictures.  Adam likes to dance with his Uncle Matt.
The latest family photo of the Leibrocks.
Merry Christmas!

So, we are back home in Ohio, and on our own for really the first time since Adam was born.  We are working hard to adjust to our new life, but continue to fall more in love with Adam each day--he is growing so fast!  It was great to see everyone in MN - sorry to those we missed.  We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!
Love, Phil, Dana, and Adam

One more first...

His first bottle.  He slammed it!
